The site consists of three different functions: residential, communal, and commercial, each with its own massing scale and form. The commercial mass is positioned near the main street to facilitate public access conveniently, while the residential mass is situated adjacent to the alley to ensure accessibility while maintaining privacy. It serves as an inclusive store catering to essential daily needs. Centrally located is a gathering place that activates the site, fostering interaction among residents. This main shared space features both indoor and outdoor elements, with movable partitions providing adaptability, allowing the courtyard to transition between open and closed configurations.
Voids between these masses create residual spaces that blur the boundaries between private and public areas. The residential units consist of two double-height module units, aggregated separately to offer privacy, access to natural light, and ventilation. The spaces between these units can serve as additional communal areas exclusively for residents, not accessible to the public.
The design emphasizes a central shared space with both indoor and outdoor features. Movable partitions enhance adaptability, enabling the courtyard to flex between open and closed layouts. Openings, such as doors and windows, are strategically positioned to prevent direct visual access from one unit to another. They are placed on the east and west facades to capture morning and evening light.
